Allina Medical Transportation hires emergency medical dispatchers to handle calls to its communications center on 167 Grand Avenue in St. Paul, Minn.
Schedules
Our communications center never closes. thus, dispatcher shift schedules consist of days, evenings and overnights. There also are weekend and holiday shift requirements.
Schedules are bid on by seniority according to staffing rules developed with Local 167 union leaders.
All dispatchers work full-time.
Pay and benefits
In 2004, the starting rate of pay for all new dispatchers is $15.66.
Benefits begin the first day of the month following hire date.
Requirements
Dispatchers must meet these requirements:
an excellent geographical working knowledge of the Twin Cities metro area
emergency medical dispatcher (EMD) certification completion with six months of hire
an excellent understanding of emergency medicine (Emergency medical technician experience is preferred but not required.)
Hiring process
Dispatchers are hired individually or in a group.
When a hiring is announced, the position is posted for application acceptance for at least 10 days. Applications
received outside of this timeframe are held on file for up to six months for
review at the next hiring.
The hiring process begins with an interview.
the hiring process also involves a criminal background check, education and employment verification, personal reference verification and a pre-employment interview with Occupational Health.
Orientation and training
Newly hired dispatchers go through a structured orientation and training.
