Winthrop Area Clinic sees 1,000th patient visitNEW ULM, Minn. 05/16/2008--Winthrop Area Clinic, a branch of New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC), saw its 1,000 patient visit today. The Winthrop Area Clinic opened its doors to patients in December 2007 after Winthrop Opportunities approached New Ulm Medical Center to offer enhanced medical services in Winthrop.
![]() Nurse Practitioner Michelle Owens greeted the Winthrop Area Clinic’s 1,000 patient, Nadine Clobes, on May 16. Clobes, who was visiting Owens for a routine check up, received some gifts for being the 1,000 patient, including the teddy bear she is holding, which was donated to the New Ulm Medical Center by third grade Girl Scout Troop number 30166. Winthrop Area Clinic provides general family care to residents in Winthrop, Gaylord, Gibbon and other surrounding communities, providing patients an easy alternative to traveling to Arlington, Waconia or Hutchinson. “We like the Winthrop Area Clinic because it is small and has a nice atmosphere,” said Christina Clobes, mother of the 1,000 patient, Nadine Clobes. Nadine was visiting the clinic for her annual checkup. “We’re from out of town so we would have to drive to get to a clinic either way and I just prefer the Winthrop clinic because it’s easy to get to and easy to get an appointment.” Clobes said that Nadine had been to see Nurse Practitioner Michelle Owens with a bad cough and cold earlier in the winter and, based on a positive experience at that time, decided to have Owens be Nadine’s primary care provider. "We’re committed to ensuring our patients and their families have access to high quality care in and near their own communities," said Jeff Messenger, New Ulm Medical Center director of clinic operations. "Our planning team looked closely at the needs of our patients and service areas that were currently in high demand to determine how we could best serve patients in Winthrop and surrounding communities," said Messenger Programs and services currently offered at the Winthrop Area Clinic include: general family care, obstetrics, onsite lab and digital radiology, and occupational medicine. Winthrop Area Clinic is staffed by NUMC physicians, a nurse practitioner and support staff. ''I'm excited to be providing medical services at Winthrop, an extension of New Ulm Medical Center," said Owens. "The location is convenient and the upgraded facility is fantastic for patients to have access to the same top-notch team and technology that is offered at the New Ulm medical campus. This is a real win-win for our patients and their families,'' said Owens. In addition to the Winthrop Area Clinic, NUMC provides specialty outreach to other community-based sites, including general surgery and podiatry care at Madelia Community Hospital; orthopedics at Sibley Medical Center, Arlington; and orthopedics and podiatry in Sleepy Eye Medical Center. Winthrop Area Clinic is located at 211 East Second Street, Winthrop, Minn.
