EMI Connect - Frequently Asked Questions
What is EMI Connect?
- EMI Connect is a web site that has a link for logging into EMI’s (EMI) Ultravisual (UV) Web via Allina Remote Applications.
- EMI Connect provides project information, reference guides, policies and business partner agreements.
- EMI Connect provides extended downtime notices for UV Web.
What is UV Web?
UV Web offers Allina providers remote access to X-Ray, MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Cardiovascular and other medical images. With UV Web, providers are now able to access Allina medical images from home, office or other non-Allina facilities.
What imagery is available with UV Web?
Like standard Ultravisual (the UV application you use at your Allina hospital or clinic), UV Web provides access to all Allina images stored in the EMI archive at Park Data Center. The EMI archive contains imagery from United Hospital, Mercy & Unity Hospital, Abbott Northwestern Hospital, River Falls Area Hospital, St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Cambridge Medical Center, New Ulm Medical Center, and Buffalo Hospital, as well as Coon Rapids AMC Clinic.
Who can use UV Web?
- UV Web is available to providers who are credentialed to practice at an Allina hospital or clinic.
- UV Web is intended for referring physicians and clinicians and is not meant for primary reads.
How will I know how to use UV Web?
UV Web has nearly the same functionality as standard UV (the UV application you use at your Allina hospital or clinic).
Refer to the UV Quick Reference Guide on EMI Connect.
How does the UV Web application differ from the standard UV application (at your Allina hospital or clinic)?
Exam Lists
In the UV Web Exam List drop-down menu you will see different options from what you see in your local UV.
- UV web exam lists are by modality (CR, CT, MRI, etc.).
- UV web exam lists include two days of data.
- UV web exam lists will have patient data from all Allina facilities.
Retrieving Studies
- Initially, the UV web server will not have a great deal of historical data. This means that not all studies will be local. You may have to do an Enterprise search to retrieve studies to UV web.
- Refer to How to View Ultravisual Images: UV Web on EMI Connect for detailed instructions on retrieving studies.
Is UV Web the only option for remote access to Allina medical imagery?
LAN-to-LAN
LAN-to-LAN is an alternate means of remotely accessing Allina medical images. LAN-to-LAN is a site-to-site configuration which allows clinics who have many UV users to connect directly to the Allina network. Although a LAN-to-LAN connection is a very efficient option for multiple UV users from one clinic, LAN-to-LAN does not facilitate image viewing anywhere outside the clinic.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
VPN is a secure means of accessing the Allina network. VPN is limitedly available for those Allina physicians who need multiple monitors or who have a clinical need for high-resolution viewing.
For information about LAN-to-LAN or VPN remote access, contact the EMI team
How do I get UV Web?
Allina Physicians:
- Submit a Desktop Request (DTR). Find the DTR link on Allina Knowledge Network (AKN)/Other Allina Services tab/ Corporate column/Information Services/ Technology Support Center (Help Desk)/Submit a DTR to Allina IS link.
- Or, submit a UV Web access form on EMI Connect.
- Or, call the Allina Technology Support Center (TSC) at 612-262-1900 or 1-800-315-4085.
Allina Business Partners:
- Contact a member of the Radiology or Cardiovascular management or Physician Services representative at your Allina hospital or clinic. They will initiate a Desktop Request (DTR) on your behalf.
- Or, submit a UV Web access form on EMI Connect.
How do I access UV Web?
Once you submit your request to become a UV Web user, Information Services (IS) will evaluate your request to establish an UV Web log-in ID and determine whether you need an RSA token (see description below). Once your request has been processed, you will receive communications about how to access and utilize UV Web. These communications will be included in the RSA token packet or sent to you via e-mail.
Like remote access to Excellian, UV Web is accessed through Allina Remote Applications. Users must have a high-speed connection and, in most cases, an RSA token to log in to Allina Remote Applications.
What is an RSA token?
An RSA token is a method of second factor authentication. The RSA token generates an access code every sixty seconds that is used in conjunction with an established Allina identification and password to log-on to the Allina network. A picture of the token appears to the left.
What does UV Web cost?
UV Web is free. However, the RSA token necessary to log-in to Allina Remote Applications is $150.00. Allina provides the initial RSA token at no charge to Allina providers and business partners who are credentialed to practice at an Allina hospital or clinic. If a customer loses or breaks their RSA token, however, there will be a $150.00 charge for a replacement token, billed to the customer’s employer.
What system requirements do I need for UV Web?
There are minimum system and network requirements necessary to efficiently view images via UV Web.
Please see the Minimum Hardware and Network Requirement document on EMI Connect.

Can I use my Macintosh computer for UV Web?
UV Web will install and may run on Macintosh computers but will not be supported by Allina IS.
Note: UV does not support multiple monitors nor is it intended for primary diagnostic reading of images. Also, while Cine mode review of stacked images (CT, MRI, Ultrasound) can be selected in UV Web, it is not clinically usable.
On behalf of the Enterprise Medical Imaging team at Allina Information Services, we thank you for your interest in UV Web!
