Heart attack warning signs

Getting treatment at the first sign of a heart attack is critical, so make sure you know the warning signs.

Seek emergency medical care if you experience these symptoms.

Most common signs

  • pressure, fullness, or pain in the center or across the chest
  • pain that spreads to the arms, neck or jaw
  • chest discomfort with lightheadedness, fainting, sweating, nausea, shortness of breath

Less common signs

  • chest, stomach, or abdominal pain that you don't typically have
  • nausea or dizziness
  • shortness of breath, difficulty breathing
  • anxiety, weakness, or tiredness
  • cold sweats or paleness
